How Many Resumes, How Many Interviews?
Well the job hunt continues and with a vengence. But how many resumes does one in this “recession” have to send before you even get an interview. I am thinking, hundreds perhaps thousands. It is kind of disserting to say the least.
And when you do get that first interview be prepared for many more. Long gone are the days when after one interview, you could receive that phone call that would be a job offer. Not now. Even for a job that pays just over minimum wage you could be called in for 3 or even 4 interviews. To me that is totally insane. Yes, it is an employers market right now but come on guys, I am not applying for a CEO position!! Let’s get real here, you are paying me just over minimum wage and want me to work probably 44 hours a week and you have to interview over 3 times??
But I am not loosing my faith…. not yet. I have not yet put up my belongings for sale and moving south … not yet. But it sure is looking pretty right now. I’d rather be poor in a warm climate than in the freezing cold!
There is no point knocking on the door of the company’s employment office anymore. In fact I think they would probably laugh at you. Sending your resume through snail mail – well forget that because someone just beat you to it by emailing or faxing.
Your personal contacts – maybe. But even then you will have to go through the right channels and submit your resume which is then filed along with the rest.
So I will continue …….. pounding the pavement through the internet and somewhere, someone will hire me …………. I know they will!!
