CAA & Cancellation

CAA & Cancellation

I have been a member of CAA for more years than I care to remember.  I have nothing against their service and the assistance they can provide for you when needed.

Now for reasons of my own choosing, I have decided to cancel my membership.  One, I have only used them once in the past 10 years for help in the winter when I parked to close to the ploughed snow …… silly mistake.  So that tow out of the drift cost me $900.  Little costly!!  Second, I am never too far from home and I have many friends who could help me out if necessary.  Third, I am not on travelling on the road for my job.  I could go on, but you get the picture.

I called last week and asked for my membership not to be renewed.  I was told to send an email stating my membership number and reason for cancellation.  Why they have to know this is beyond me.  We give away too much information these days as it is!  Fine & dandy, I sent an email.  But what if I did not have access to email?  My guess is that I would have to send a letter.  I have received acknowledgment, here’s a copy:

Thank you for contacting CAA South Central Ontario.  Your request has been forwarded to our Membership Records department for further review and processing.

For further review!!  How dare they.  Further review – I don’t think so.  All I want to do is cancel my damn membership and keep the $90+ in my pocket.  Now it is time to get on the phone and speak to someone.  With some luck, my membership will be canceled and the ever so all and mighty CAA will never ever hear from me again.

Just my little peeve for the day!
